Rainbows and Belief Systems
We are all effected by the belief systems of our culture, religion, education, up-bringing, etc. In this lesson we want to look at the effects of those belief systems on a natural phenomena: rainbows. Jack Hayford while pastoring at “Church on The Way,” had dramatic encounters in the midst of 5000 people in regards to rainbows. And depending on how one looks at rainbows depends on the interpretation of the event. Is the rainbow (re-occurring 7 times with no rain, and overhead) just a natural phenomena, a symbol of the new-age movement, or a sign of God’s divine involvement? In other words we are looking at three possible worldviews that affect how we see the world around us: rationalism, fear/enemy based, Holy Spirit based. We take this thinking forward to discuss the effects of rationalism and fear based paradigms on the church- and the power of symbolic language to keep us on track with the Holy Spirit.
